McDonald's applies to register trademark in Russia.

The company does not plan to re-enter the Russian market, but wants to "prevent third-party businesses" from taking advantage of the brand, McDonald's said in a statement.

McDonald's is returning to Russia. The brand has filed an application with Rospatent to register the McDonald's trademark, RIA Novosti reports.

Companies initially use this as an excuse to protect IP, however McDonalds have not fully exited, they have conveyed their business - and retain a full buy back option. It’s an exit feint - but better than KFC who profiteer with impunity.
