At the same time, on the night of January 1, TASS reported about the shelling of Makiivka , without giving details of what happened. Initially reportedthat military personnel mobilized from the Saratov region were hit, but later information appeared that mobilized from the Samara region were located in the vocational school. This was later confirmed by the governor of the region Dmitry Azarov.
After analyzing the information obtained from open sources, we were able to largely restore the picture of the events that took place. Men from the Samara region, called up for military service at the beginning of the “partial” mobilization announced by President Putin, were gathered for training in the training centers of the 2nd Combined Arms Army. After several months of preparation, as part of the 1444th regiment (military unit 95385), in December they were sent to the combat zone and on December 17 arrived in Makeevka, which had been occupied by pro-Russian forces since 2014.
Upon arrival in Makeyevka, the entire personnel of the 1st battalion (according to the GRAY ZONE telegram channel 120-150 people, according to the VChK-OGPU channel over 400 people, and according to Anatoly Shariy - up to 600 people) by decision of the command was housed in a three-story building of vocational school No. 19 at 48 Kremlin Street . In addition, based on reports on various resources ( Igor Girkin (Strelkov) , Rybar), we can conclude that in the same building with personnel, in violation of existing rules, the unit’s ammunition was also located along with fuel supplies. After being hit by MLRS shells, it all apparently exploded, increasing the scale of destruction, which led to a fire that reduced the chances of saving those trapped under the rubble to almost zero. The reports about the placement of equipment near the building were not confirmed - the personnel at the time of the shelling were only waiting for its arrival.
