I'm from Norway and some buddies and I are working on a very large "WW3 in 1985" project:

We are implementing the various fixed SAM networks in Europe, including all SA-2/3/5 (S-75/125/200) sites in East Germany, Poland, Czechoslovakia, on the Kola Peninsula and around Arkangelsk. We're currently working on the fixed SAM defences from Leningrad to Kaliningrad, and found that this forum has a lot of experts on this subject.

We're looking to re-create the *exact* SAM network like it appeared in 1985, and wondered if you guys might be able to help us with just that. Is there a complete overview of the 14th PVO anti-aircraft sites for 1985? I understand that there were 45 SAM sites in Estonia in 1990, but how many were there in 1985? What types? And where?

Well, 14th PVO Division (call sign "Anod") was situated in Tallinn, with the field post number 03115. The Command Post was located somewhere in the outskirts of Tallinn, in Pääsküla.

The subunits of this Division were 4 PVO Brigades (zrbr): - 94. zrbn in Keila-Joa (call sign "Vodopad"), 207. zrbn in Rakvere, 210. zrbn in Saaremaa Kingissepp (now Kuressaare), 898. zrpk in Valga.

I did my compulsory service in the Soviet Army in 207. zrbn (1978-1980); the field post number of this BDE was 96420. The HQ and the barracks of the signals coy and the transport coy as well as the billets of the officers were located near the railway station of Rakvere, the underground Command Post was a little bit further away (the ruins of this structure are still there). The HQ element was in Tapa until 1979 April, then this zrbr took over the location of another SA unit that was out of the sudden relocated somewhere else.

I've been trying to restore the dislocation of the subunits (zrdn-s) of this particular Brigade, but this is far too difficult task after 30 years past. Close to Tapa, in Lehtse was situated the only classified zrdn with S-200 missiles (call sign of this zrdn was "Krokodil"). In Sonda was 4th zrdn with S-75 (call sign "Vinilovyi"). Close to Haljal was 5th zrdn with S-? ("Balnik"). In Kahala was 6th zrdn with S-75 ("Galife"). Close to Kunda was 8th (?) zrdn with S-125 ("Detektor"). Somewhere in vicinity of Kuusalu, Kiviõli, Võsu (S-75) etc were located at least 8 more zrdn-s and one tecnical unit, but it's impossible to remember.
