A masked man has fled after an attempted car bomb attack on a Belgian army barracks in the town of Flawinne, media reports say.

Shots were fired by Belgian soldiers after a man rammed a car into the gates of a paratrooper barracks.

Prosecutors say that were no injuries in the attack, near the city of Namur in the south of the country.

Local reports say a suspected bomb device has been found inside the car used by the attacker.
