6.8x51mm NGSW moon

Postitus Postitas Porutšik »

Puudutaks kergelt nn. Next Generation Squad Weapon Programmi.

The Next Generation Squad Weapon (NGSW) program was created by the United States military in 2017 to replace the M4 carbine, M249 SAW light machine gun, the M240 machine gun; and their associated cartridges; and to develop small arms fire control systems for the new weapons.

Deepl:
Ameerika Ühendriikide sõjavägi lõi 2017. aastal programmi "Next Generation Squad Weapon" (NGSW), et asendada M4 karabiin, M249 SAW kergekuulipilduja, M240 kuulipilduja; ja nendega seotud padrunid; ning arendada uute relvade jaoks väikerelvade tulejuhtimissüsteeme.

Kuna vahepeal on tulnud sellekohaseid uudiseid.

Army Aims to Buy 29,000 Next-Gen Rifles and Machine Guns for Grunts to Test.

The Army has requested the purchase of 29,046 so-called Next Generation Squad Weapons, an umbrella term for offerings from Sig Sauer and LoneStar Future Weapons. That is a huge boost from the 12,000 new weapons purchased for this year and the 3,000 bought in 2021.

While it could be up to a year before the Army decides between the Sig Sauer or Lonestar weapons, in January it selected a new advanced optic to be mounted on those weapons. Vortex Optics was awarded a $2.7 billion contract to build 250,000 optics over the next 10 years.

The Next Generation Squad Weapons program was launched in 2017. The Army wanted weapons to use a 6.8mm round, over concerns that the current 5.56mm is too small, especially against an adversary with body armor. That new ammo is also aimed to be lighter than the current brass ammo used by troops.

Winchester Will Make 6.8mm Ammo for US Military’s New NGSW Rifle.

Winchester to Produce 6.8mm Ammunition for the Next Generation Squad Weapons: The U.S. Army still has to make its final selection for the firearm that will eventually replace the M4A1 carbine and M249 Squad Automatic Weapon, but recently it was announced that Winchester, the largest manufacturer of small-caliber ammunition for the U.S. military, will be producing the 6.8mm ammunition for the Next Generational Squad Weapons (NGSW) program.
The program has been met with delays due to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic.
Despite those past delays, it seems that the program is back on track as Winchester announced that the U.S. Army has awarded the company a total of $20 million in cost-plus and firm-fixed-price contracts related to ammunition development, manufacturing facility requirements analysis and production capacity planning for the 6.8mm NGSW program.

USA armee valis Sig Saueri oma "Next Generation Squad Weapons" relvade tarnijaks.

Army chooses Sig Sauer to build its Next Generation Squad Weapon.

The Army has picked Sig Sauer to build and deliver its Next Generation Squad Weapon variants, according to a release issued late Tuesday.

The weapon takes 6.8 mm cartridges and will come in both rifle and automatic rifle variants.
The rifle variant is currently dubbed the XM5 and the automatic rifle is named the XM250. The “X” status remains until fielded in most Army naming conventions.

The intermediate caliber 6.8 mm cartridge falls between the 5.56 mm, which is in the M4 and the M249 Squad Automatic Weapon, and the 7.62 mm round in the M240 machine gun.

The 6.8 mm round has greater lethality at distances beyond the effective range of the 5.56 mm and retains better accuracy than the 7.62 mm.

Veel natuke uudiseid.

The Army ultimately plans to buy 107,000 of what it has dubbed M5 rifles and 13,000 M250 machine guns from Sig Sauer, which was recently awarded a contract worth a total of $4.7 billion to produce the weapons as well as all the 6.8 mm ammunition for the next several years, Army officials told reporters on Wednesday. The Army officials could not say how long it will take to field all the weapons to soldiers.

“The fielding of the weapon is based upon ammunition production,” Army Brig. Gen. Larry Burris said at a Pentagon news conference. “What we don’t want to do is field capability to a unit where we don’t have training ammunition or contingency ammunition if required.”

Retired Army Maj. Gen. Robert Scales told Task & Purpose in January that 6.8 mm rounds fly at a supersonic velocity longer than 5.56 mm rounds, making them more accurate, and they are more controllable on fully automatic fire than 7.62 mm ammunition.

Moreover, the 6.8 mm round is optimal for close combat between 500 and 600 meters, said Scales, who served on the Defense Department’s Close Combat Lethality Task Force that was established by then-Defense Secretary James Mattis.

The Next Generation Squad Weapon is intended to replace the M4 carbine and M249 automatic weapons for soldiers who serve in frontline military occupational specialties. The rest of the Army will continue to use the M4 and M249, which chamber 5.56 mm rounds, as well as the M240 machine gun, which chambers 7.62 mm rounds.

The Army has no plans to reduce its production of both 5.56 mm and 7.62 mm ammunition, said Brig. Gen. William M. Boruff, joint program executive officer for armaments and ammunition.

Following a 2017 study into small arms ammunition, the Army decided that the Next Generation Squad Weapon needed to fire a 6.8 mm round to penetrate enemy body armor. Gen. Mark Milley, then Army chief of staff, told Congress in May 2017 that body armor as cheap as $250 could stop the 5.56 mm rounds fired by the M4 and M249.

Burris declined to say on Wednesday if the 6.8 mm round could penetrate Level IV armor plates, the highest rifle plating under National Institute for Justice body armor standards.

Palun modedel antud teema pealkirja parandada. USA uus väljavalitud padrun on mõõdus 6.8x51mm, mitte x43 nagu hetkel pealkirjas paistab.

US Army viib M240 kuulipildujad üle 6,8 mm moonale. Relvarauad on enamasti kergesti vahetatavad.

ERR vahendab ajakirjas Sõdur sel teemal ilmunud artiklit.
USA maaväe uued käsitulirelvad määravad arengusuuna 50 aastaks.

Järgmine põlvkond

USA järgmise põlvkonna jaorelvade programm sai alguse ideaalse kuju ja kaaluga püssikuuli arendamisest. Leiti, et efektiivsel laskekaugusel 610 m, piisavaks läbistusvõimeks kaugustel kuni 1200 m on optimaalseks kaliibriks 6,8 mm juhul, kui kuul lahkub vintrauast algkiirusel üle 914 m/s.
Risto Pärtel, major, kaitseväe pearelvur.

Ameeriklaste uus relvastus on mitmes aspektis natuke parem võrreldes traditsiooniliste relvadega, kuid mitte nii palju, et me peaksime LMT automaatide kasutamise korral ennast halvasti tundma. R20 efektiivne laskekaugus on täitsa piisav meie poolkinnisel maastikul.

Tuleviku alternatiiv tundub olevat ikkagi 6.5CM.

To deliver the required performance in a cartridge weighing the same or less than 7.62x51 mm NATO, the SIG 6.8x51 mm round is fired at 3,000 fps / 914 mps. This results in chamber pressures in excess of 80,000 psi (which is the same as the M1 Abrams MBT's 120 mm main gun).
For all its benefits, the 6.8x51 mm NGSW cartridge generates significant heat, reduces barrel and parts life, and has greater recoil than 7.62 mm NATO. Although SIG says barrel life now exceeds 10,000 rounds, the average 7.62 mm barrel will run to at least 20,000 rounds.

orkidel ka oma NGSW moon välja toodud. AK-22 relvaks ja kaliibriks 6.02x41...

Kalashnikov.ru reports that a new patent (RU 2809501 C1) has been filed for “Small Weapons Cartridge with Increased Penetration”. Behind this is a new caliber for the AK platform, which will combine the advantages of the previous caliber. Talk, the familiar 5.45x39 and 7.62x39 could now become 6.02x41. Possibly a response to the American NGSW program?
