Ukraine is an unitary state composed of 24 oblasts, one autonomous republic - Crimea, and two cities with special status: Kyiv, its capital, and Sevastopol, which houses the Russian Black Sea Fleet under a leasing agreement. Ukraine is a democratic republic under a semi-presidential system with separate legislative, executive, and judicial branches.
According to the foreign policy of Ukraine the country is looking towards the West and sees itself as part both of the NATO and European Union in the near future.
